The year started with an impromptu long weekend travelling across the snowy peaks by rail to st Moritz and then onto Italy staying in Bormio with old skiing friends. In April I travelled on the maiden voyage of P&O's Ventura with stops in Barcelona, Villefranche and three Italian ports with the statutory call at Gibralter on the way back. May took me to France for a wine weekend in Burgundy. June took me to the Shetlands (see other story above). July saw me to Greenland, Norway, Iceland and, rather incongruously, Ireland on board Aurora, an old favourite of mine. Finally, back to sea again in August, on board the Hurtigruten working ferry Finnmarken departing Kirkenes and travelling South to Bergen together with my brother and sister-in-law and other friends.
